Not your Average Injectable
We can’t even call Sculptra a filler, although that is what it is sometimes referred to in larger circles. The difference is that a standard filler immediately plumps lines and increases volume by pushing superficial tissue upward and outward. Most fillers do this with water. That’s right! Fillers formulated with a hyaluronic acid base attract thousands of water molecules and hold them in place for months on end. Sculptra doesn’t do this. Instead, it uses poly-L-lactic acid, the same type of acid that your muscles produce when you exercise, to stimulate collagen production over a period of time.
Essentially, the intent with this injectable is to restructure the foundation that creates fullness and contouring to the face. To achieve this, a few treatments are needed at 4- to 6-week intervals. After this initial round of treatments, results last two years or more.
Aftercare Matters
Most other dermal fillers need to be left alone to integrate into the tissue in which they were applied. Not Sculptra. After treatment with this collagen-stimulator, patients are advised to massage their treatment area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the first 5 days after treatment. The reason this is recommended is because the poly-L-lactic acid particles do a better job at rejuvenating the face when they are dispersed somewhat under the skin.
There are several ways to rejuvenate the face here at Cosmetique in Miami. Getting to know your concerns and expectations, we can help you determine if Sculptra is the right treatment for you. To schedule your visit, call 305-279-4700.
